We spent the study trip to Budapest as part of the ” STEM Academy” project , in cooperation with partners the Algebra University , the Faculty of Mining, Geology and Petroleum in Zagreb and the Institute for Education Development . During three days, we had the opportunity to visit three institutions that brought us closer to their activities in the STEM field – Óbuda University , Alternatív Közgazdasági Gimnázium and Fablab Budapest.
Study trip program
The first day of our trip was reserved for a visit to Óbuda University and Alternatív Közgazdasági Gimnázium.
Óbuda University in Budapest is a technical faculty that, in addition to education, attaches great importance to innovation and research and development. Along with a short presentation and a tour of the faculty, we also had the opportunity to visit their research laboratory, where we saw first-hand the robots they develop for medical purposes.
Alternatív Közgazdasági Gimnázium or Alternative Private Gymnasium gave us a completely different insight into education. In a conversation with one of the professors there, we learned that their concept has completely abandoned the traditional instruments of education. Their basic educational principle of the school is that the child does not prepare for life, but lives it. They put the individual personalities of the students in focus, taking into account their personal needs and concerns. They attach great importance to STEM fields in their education, and the great interest is that their students even won second place in the robotics competition in Rio de Janeiro.
On the last day, we visited FabLab Budapest, an open laboratory where different innovative ideas can be realized. Here we had the opportunity to see the 3D printers, laser cutters and other machines they use to create prototypes. It was extremely interesting to see how, in an innovative way, advanced technologies are used to create the products they are working on.
The trip to Budapest was an experience that provided us with a lot of new knowledge. Practical examples and interaction with innovative institutions helped us to understand how it is possible to apply new innovative ideas in different fields.
